Science Fiction Fantasy Saturday - Unicorn Keep by Angelia Almos
Unicorn Keep by Angelia Almos
Unicorn Keep is my new young adult fantasy about Jiline who switches places with her best friend, Madelen, to become a unicorn keeper. It should be coming out in May if production stays on target with no major disasters.
The crystal glowed. Her hand ached from Madelen’s iron grip.
“What is your name child?” Daniah demanded when Madelen didn’t offer it right away.
“Madelen,” she whispered.
Daniah stepped back. More whispers and writing on the parchment. The crystal did not glow for Jiline. An odd sort of deflation filled her.

Ahh, the chosen one doesn't want to go while the unchosen does. Nice tension.
ReplyDeleteReally interesting premise. Great snippet and I really like the cover (good choice of colours).
ReplyDeleteOoh...I hate it when the crystal doesn't glow.
ReplyDeleteThis sounds great. Can't wait for more.
Awww...sad face. Poor Jiline!
ReplyDeleteGood snippet! Looking forward to more of this!
Something tells me Jiline isn't going to take this odd sort of deflation sitting down. I get the feeling Madelen needs to watch her back! :) Great snippet.
ReplyDeleteI think so too. I suspect there's more here...
DeleteI love the conflict here. Nice snippet! I'm guessing Madelen has something else that she'd like to make a priority?
ReplyDeleteWonderful! I can't wait to read this in full. :o)
ReplyDeleteGreat snippet...setting things up for the switch to happen, I'm going to assume?
ReplyDeleteLove the names! And, you'll have a ton of young girls loving the unicorn aspect of the book.
ReplyDeleteNow just what determines whether the crystal glows?
ReplyDeleteOh, I liked that. Super cool!
ReplyDeleteThank you everyone for stopping by and for your comments. Unicorn Keep was a fun book to write since it was one that took off with a life of its own.
ReplyDeleteJust want to add that Horse Charmer is rekindling my teenage-girlhood fantasy of becoming someone courageous & special. :)
ReplyDeleteAh, Claudine, how sweet! Thank you. I'm glad you're enjoying the book.
DeleteMaybe the crystal knows best? poor Jiline.
