Of course they had, they had believed she was traveling on a well-traveled road to the closest city with Wilm as her escort. But she didn’t say that. Instead, she sat up taller. “You’re traveling alone.”
“I’m not a child.”
“You couldn’t be more than fifteen.”
“Your family sent you alone,” Herrick said.

She glared at him. “I’m not a child either.”

I hate it when a guy's right, too. Infuriating.
ReplyDeleteCute snippet!
I just love the premise of this story. I love the character, too! I love the snippet!
ReplyDeleteThanks JC.
DeleteNever argue with a teenager about their child-like status! :-)
ReplyDeleteI think I had this conversation before, with my parents...weird. Of course, they knew my exact age so there was no guesswork. I can see a nice little spat coming shortly! Good stuff!
ReplyDeleteKinda hard to argue when they know your exact age. :-)
DeleteIt's always infuriating when someone points out things you don't want to hear, even if they're true. I think everyone has had this moment, or at least I know I've run into to it quite a few times, so that made the snippet work even more for me. And that's beyond the super cool premise. Can't wait for more.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jalise. Nothing more infuriating than when someone is right.
Deletehe sounds super! A real pain in the rear!
ReplyDeleteNice snippet.
Thanks! He continues to cause her many headaches.
DeleteA guy is winning an argument against a young woman? That can't be! I have to document this.
ReplyDeleteWho says he won? ;-)
DeleteLove this character, and love this story. I just picked up the book. I still haven't got to your other one (Spectors) yet, though. My bad. My TBR pile is preposterous. I'm working on it.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cary. No worries. I find myself hiding from my TBR pile as it keeps staring at me accusingly.
DeleteI won't last Patrick, don't worry. He'll lose in the end.
ReplyDeleteLOL You never know. ;-)
DeletePerception of age changes so much as you age...
ReplyDeleteIt does. Funny how that happens.
DeleteAs the mom of 3 teen daughters, my first reaction is to hope she gets grounded! Lol, nice snippet.
ReplyDeleteI remember 15. I thought I knew everything. I miss those days.
ReplyDeleteYeah, what happened to knowing everything?
DeleteLove this :)
ReplyDeleteNo one likes a smart alec. :)
